This tiny little place changed my life. I used to work there when I was in high school. I learned so much from listening to people talk to each other as they sat there elbow to elbow. The restaurant was founded by the late Ribhi Ramlawi, may God bless his soul. Everyone called him "Mr. R." He was the first person I ever met who actually knew God. Because of his quiet example, I became a Muslim. Mr. R had a really hard life. Born in Jerusalem, his elementary school was bombed by the Israelis when he was in first grade, so he always remained unschooled. He worked from before dawn until after dark every day including Sunday to support his eight kids, who now run the restaurant. They are really great, down to earth people. There is a beautiful photo on the wall of Mr. R peeling garlic like he did every day of my youth. This place has better falafels than anywhere in Dearborn.
